Life led them to Bjärnum

Diana and Gunnar Dahre’s journey brought them together in Bjärnum through a shared love for meaningful objects and stories worth preserving. After moving from Brazil to Vittsjö, Diana joined Gunnar to create Diana & Du, a second-hand store shaped by memories, timeless treasures, and a genuine sense of belonging. What began as a personal passion has grown into a warm, welcoming space where people are invited to explore, connect, and feel at home—a reflection of Diana’s joyful embrace of her new life and their shared vision of community.

The story & the vision

Diana and Gunnar are half-siblings with roots across continents, bringing a unique blend of cultures and experiences into Diana & Du. Diana, who is half Swedish and half Brazilian, moved to Bjärnum with a perspective shaped by her life in Brazil, where she worked for many years as a psychoanalyst exploring what truly makes people happy. Her husband Eduardo, who is half Brazilian and half Italian, is also an integral part of the store and shares the same wholehearted commitment. Inspired by the science of happiness, Diana believes that while some joy comes from genetics and circumstances, a large part is shaped by attitude, connection, and the choices we make. This belief is woven into everything at Diana & Du, making it more than a second-hand store—it’s a welcoming place designed for connection and joy, where carefully curated antiques sit alongside a café serving Brazilian coffee, ice cream, and local specialties, inviting people to meet, slow down, and feel at home while helping create a happier, more connected Bjärnum, one shared moment and one treasure at a time.

New stock after the fire

Inside the spacious premises of a former paint store, Diana & Du is filled from wall to floor with carefully chosen treasures, offering everything from everyday finds to unexpected gems. The store is thoughtfully kept clean and beautifully presented, reflecting Gunnar’s long experience in buying and selling second-hand pieces and his belief in standing behind every item offered. After years of collecting, trading, and running flea markets—from volunteering in Hässleholm to storing his collection in a barn—Gunnar faced a major turning point when a fire destroyed it all. Rather than looking back, he chose to move forward, bringing his knowledge and passion into Diana & Du. Supported by Diana and Eduardo, and driven by a shared vision already in motion, this new chapter has become a fresh beginning—one filled with new stock, renewed purpose, and a strong sense of community where experience, resilience, and possibility come together.

Minnenas piano

Every corner of Diana & Du carries a piece of the people behind it, shaped by their passions and personalities. Diana is especially drawn to the clock wall, where timepieces from different eras quietly tell their stories, while Gunnar’s love for old tools and Eduardo’s hands-on spirit come alive in the man cave, filled with vintage electronics and power tools from across the decades. Eduardo gladly takes on anything that can be repaired, adding new life to forgotten objects, but one piece stands apart—the piano. Not for sale, it’s a place for music and moments, where Diana often plays on weekends and dreams of welcoming small concerts by local musicians. When the music fills the space, the store becomes something more than a place to browse; it turns into a living room of shared memories, creativity, and inspiration.

Enjoying my new life

After living in seven different countries and spending much of her life on the move, Diana has found a sense of calm in Vittsjö, where a former summer cottage by the lake has become a permanent home for her and Eduardo. While Eduardo has stepped away from his fast-paced career in São Paulo and Diana continues her work online, they have embraced the slower rhythm of life in Sweden with joy and curiosity.

Cultural differences bring moments of laughter, from learning new ways of greeting to adapting to everyday life, and this openness is reflected in Diana & Du—a place created to welcome everyone. Children are free to play, treasure hunters can explore antiques, and families can discover meaningful finds at accessible prices, all within a warm, family-run atmosphere.

For Diana, the joy lies in giving objects a second life and offering people thoughtful alternatives to buying new, making the store not just a place to shop, but a reflection of a life lived more slowly, more intentionally, and with connection at its heart.
